Accident Summary:
THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF ON A ROUTINE MISSION, COVERING CH-47'S RESUPPLYING ALLIED FORCES INSIDE CAMBODIA. THE AIRCRAFT HAD A LEFT FUEL BOOST PUMP, AND 20 MINUTE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT INOPERATIVE. THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER DEPARTED THE LANDING ZONE WITH 200 POUNDS OF FUEL REMAINING. APPROXIMATELY EIGHT MINUTES LATER THE "RIGHT FUEL BOOST INOP" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WITH 120 POUNDS OF FUEL INDICATED, REMAINING, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO RAPIDLY LOSE POWER. THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER ENTERED AUTOROTATION, AND JETTISONED HIS ROCKET PODS. THIS HAS NOT BEEN POSITIVELY ASCERTAINED, BUT HE PROBABLY PUT THE GOVERNOR IN EMERGENCY POSITION. HE THEN NOTICED HIS N1 GAUGE REGISTERED 62%, ROLLED ON THE THROTTLE TO 5900 AND MADE A POWER ON, FORCED LANDING. IN THE LANDING ZONE, ALL INSTRUMENTS RETURNED TO THE GREEN. THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER, CW-2 JONES, DECIDED TO FLY THE REMAINING FIVE MINUTES TO BASE. HE PICKED THE AIRCRAFT UP TO A HOVER AND NOSED IT OVER TO PICK UP AIRSPEED. AT ABOUT 20 KNOTS INDICATED, THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED INTO THE TREES.\\
